The light steering which is great around town is quick and direct on the open open road, although the soft suspension means the Renault doesn't exactly feel tied down if you give it the beans. It's perfect if you do lots of short drives and have somewhere to charge it at home. It uses a combination of two electric motors and a 1.6-litre petrol engine, and can travel up to 30 miles on electricity alone. But there's also a more affordable TCe 100, as well as a two diesels (the dCi 95 and 115).Īt the top of the range, you'll find the 160PS PHEV (badged the E-Tech). Most Renault Capturs are powered by the very good TCe 130 engine, which is a turbocharged petrol unit that combines decent performance with impressive fuel economy. Rear visibility isn't great, but reversing sensors (standard on most models) help while a reversing camera is available on high-spec trim levels. The Renault Captur's easy to drive, with its relatively high seating giving you a good view of the road ahead. With it in its most forward position, there's a huge amount of boot space and access is easy. Things are decent in the back too and you get a sliding rear bench. Indeed, the Captur's well-equipped as standard, with even the most basic trim levels featuring LED headlights, electric windows (in the front and rear ) and air conditioning.Īdults in the front of the Renault Captur get plenty of space, helped by a relatively wide body which also means good shoulder room. All models come with a media system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while optional colour packs add a touch of fun that you won't find in a SEAT Arona. While some of the Renault Captur's rivals have fairly drab cabins, the plucky little Renault is awash with soft-touch materials and clever features. So, to tackle the class-leaders head on, Renault has made the Captur bigger with more room inside and given it a wider range of engines including a plug-in hybrid. There's certainly more choice now than when the original Renault Captur went on sale in 2013. Our Renault Captur review will see how this latest model stacks up. The Peugeot 2008 is a more fashionable option, while the Ford Puma is fun to drive and comes loaded to the rafters with kit. The popular Nissan Juke has recently been replaced, while the Skoda Kamiq offers extraordinary value for money. The 2021 Renault Captur enter's a very competitive small SUV market. I've never been a huge fan of these books, but that sounds like an okay message - that kids should be active, and some skinned knees are part of the deal. You can't run because when somebody was playing freeze tag, someone pushed that person, and the teachers thought you shouldn't run. At least, they get to stand out there not running. Do you mean that the playground is now not available to the kids because of fears of kids getting hurt or something? Mum: So, you've read all of these, right? Mum: So what do you want to say about this? This book is probably third in the favourite to least favourite lineup, but after all, all of them were fantastic! Once you read the book, the illustrations and the writing make it funny! :D When I read the description, it didn't seem too much like an appealing type. In this book, it makes Greg seem like the troublemaker although he never really intended to cause all the trouble, and soon a blizzard falls over their city. It didn't really complete the year, but it was just as good as the other ones. Lately, I've been tinkering in my kitchen (aka my “lab”), having lots of fun developing my recipe for maple donuts, which sounded particularly enticing to me this season. When whipped up in one's own kitchen, with simple, flavorful ingredients one can actually pronounce, and most likely has at home in their pantry, there's no sweet treat quite like ‘em. I don't eat them all that often, truth be told, but every now and then my hubby and I get a strong craving and prefer to go to a slightly more upscale/gourmet donut shop or bakery for a few sweet “fried rings” to quell our craving.Īnd while of course I thoroughly enjoy those tasty donuts, I must tell you that nothing beats homemade donuts made from scratch. I really do enjoy getting out my cozy little apron (I do actually have one!), tying it around my waist, and then getting out all of my sweet and fragrant ingredients to whip up some comforting dessert bliss by way of some muffins, bars, breads, cakes.or donuts!įor me, donuts are a little indulgence, and a slightly guilty pleasure. Have I ever told you that one of my favorite activities during the fall season is preparing desserts and sweet treats? I have? Yeah, I'm pretty certain I've mentioned it here once or twice… at least! □Īll silliness aside, it's true. These maple donuts are just like the kind you'd get from a gourmet donut shop or bakery! Wonderfully moist and cakey, and kissed with a hint of nutmeg for that classic flavor, these delicious homemade donuts come with the option to be jazzed up with the addition of crispy bacon if you're feeling adventurous, or left “naked” with only their sweet maple glaze! The simultaneous use of all the three above montages in a combination forms the overtonal montage creating conflict between the shots. Such type of scenes brings in emotional quality to film. The drifting piece of the cloth conveys the message of the fallen heroine. For example if the heroine of the film commits suicide after a huge emotional imbalance it is shown with drifting piece of cloth in the air that reaches the hero while he tries to reach. Tonal Montage concentrates on the emotion of characters that is sequenced with other shots. Each step taken forward shows the emotions of the group of protestors who are trying to flee from the soldiers pouring bullets. The relationship made with soldiers marching down the steps towards the protesters. The best example of rhythmic montage is “Odessa steps” from Sergei Eisenstein’s “Battleship Potemkin”, a Russian classic. This type eliminates the abruptness and the unexpected jump from one shot to other. In contrast to metric montage, this style of montage focuses on the rhythm of the action taken place which is equal to the actual length of the shot. This type of montage is used to create a suspense and tension which is usually fast paced and has abrupt cuts that doesn’t have continuity but makes sense of the complete length of the shot. It is a simple montage style where the long scenes are shortened to a length called as ‘absolute length’ of the shots without affecting the essence of the original story or its emotion. Sergei Eisenstein categorized montage into five different types Eisenstein believed that more the conflicting the shots are the more it is intellectual leaving its audience in shock which also stirs their inner emotions. ‘Montage’ means bringing the conflicting images/shots together that gives a unique contrast leaving a shock and anticipation for the audience. This effect can be better explained with an example from Kuleshov experiment where he juxtaposes shots from several films and edit it into a sequence that narrates its own story.Įisenstein who was also making his own experiments exceeded “Kuleshov Effect” giving out montage which is also called “Soviet Montage”. This effect is called as “Kuleshov Effect” which was the initial stage of evolution of montage. The primary principle of the montage style was invented by Lev Kuleshov in 1918 is bringing the shots that do not have any relation but makes a connection by what comes before and after the shot. The war and the restriction brought a change in the Soviet Cinematic style. With a strict control by the Government on film making and import of films it was in 1924, Sergei Eisenstein and Lev Kuleshov with other major directors like Diziga Vertov formed a group called “Association of Revolutionary Cinema” (ARC) which eventually broke up but with the aftermath of the revolution, it brought forward a style called Montage that made the world pay attention to their cinema. Soviet Cinema came to being from its painful post war experience. Learn where you need to go and who you need to speak to in order to get underway and discover what lies beyond the Devil's Shroud. At close quarters you can see that the finished result looks a little blocky, but from a distance it will look great - which is the idea. Depending on your supplier's requirements, images can be produced at either one quarter final size at 300DPI or one half final size at 300DPI. If you are producing press-ready images for large format exhibition graphics, the rules change slightly. The image on the right will print at 20cm wide, 300DPI the correct press-ready resolution. The image on the left (above) will print out at 83.33cm x 111.09cm - that's over a metre high! But the resolution will be low and therefore the image quality will be poor. In print, the image would appear bigger, but be more 'blocky' because the pixels would be much larger in size. This means that if an image appearing on a page is 20cm wide, then in Photoshop the document size should read at least 20cm (or 200mm) wide and 300DPI under Image/Image Size.īecause the resolution is directly related to the physical size of the image, if you deselect 'Resample Image' and change the resolution to 72DPI, you will see the physical size increase proportionally. Photographs and other images which are made up of pixels should be 300DPI, actual size. What resolution should a press-ready image be? Just make sure the client knows that it is just a low resolution 'positional' you might be amazed at how many clients assume that the quality of the finished product will look just like the first low resolution proof. This is when you should use a low res image comp for the initial proofs. If you're buying images for the project from an image library, you'll need to get approval from the client before actually spending the money on them. Be safe! If you can, work with images which are already press-ready. Normally this is because the document has been worked on for weeks, possibly by more than one person, and by the time it's signed off by the client, some of the placed low res images are overlooked and not substituted. If you had worked with high res from the start, once you get approval, the job is done.Īnother very good reason for using high res images from the start is this: I have lost count of the number of times a document has been sent to press containing low resolution images, saved in incorrect color modes, saved in the wrong file format. One good reason for this is that if you're making lots of changes to a low res image, once you've been given approval by the client you'll have to redo all that work when you recreate them in a high resolution image version, and you need to make sure you recreate the image in exactly the same way. However, computer processing speeds have increased so much now that nine times out of ten you might as well work with a high resolution, press-ready image from the beginning (assuming it doesn't need pre-purchase approval). The second reason is that the images may need to be purchased, and you want to be sure that they have been approved before you commit funds and buy the high resolution versions. One is that your workflow is faster if you use smaller files sizes. Only when the designs had been approved would you go through the project and replace the low res images with high res versions. Not so long ago it was best to use low resolution images when doing page makeup work. In our studio, before we do any page layout work we make the images press-ready. And if you want the comfort of knowing that all bases have been covered before sending files to the printing house, use 'preflight' software like Flightcheck. If you want to skip these image basics and just find a handy reference guide, take a look at our Image Pre-Press-Checklist which'll help you prepare an image for press. It just requires attention to detail and a basic checklist for the elements of your work: images, document colors, fonts and PDF settings. You can be this confident about your artwork. As soon as ink touches paper, money is committed, and you'd better be very confident that the artwork on the press is perfect! No one likes a reprint - someone has to pay for it. Up to the point that you create press-ready artwork, it's mostly been just your time spent on the job - not tangible ink, paper and shipping. As soon as the job is on the press, money is being spent. And by printer, I don't mean your inkjet or laser. This means that the images we use need to be press-ready before anything goes to the printer. Most of the work laid out in Quark XPress and InDesign is destined for the printing press. This is very true for graphic design, and especially for image preparation. Understanding the reason for a doing something helps you understand how to do it better. When creating press-ready images and artwork, it's just as important to know why you are doing it as it is to know how. Press-Ready Image Tutorial: How and Why to Create High Resolution Images Why are the pigeons in some pages? Why was Goldilocks too small to go on Daddy, Mommy and little Dinosaur’s chairs? I was thinking the dinosaurs will make a trap. In the book, there were some pigeons in the pages.Īndrew: When we found the pigeon it was my favourite. The dinosaurs opened the front door and jumped in at Goldilocks. Kelvin: My favourite part was Goldilocks eats the chocolate pudding. Giovanni: My favourite part was that the chairs were too tall. It was funny when she went in the chocolate pudding. Kala: I wonder why she sneaked in the house. Why are the pigeons only in some pages? I wonder why Goldilocks went in the dinosaurs’ house? Why didn’t the dinosaurs eat Goldilocks under the tree? I thought the dinosaurs will make a trap. I liked it when we found the pigeon in the cookies. Heman: My favourite part was when Goldilocks fell in the chocolate pudding. We saw the pigeon in this book and I like that book! My favourite author is Mo Willems and he does funny books. Kassidy: I like when the chairs was too tall! When Goldilocks ate the chocolate pudding it was silly when she fell in!Īshley: I liked Goldilocks and the three Dinosaurs. I was thinking of Piggie and Gerald when I listened. Vicky: My favourite part was when we found the pigeon. I like him!īrian: My favourite part was when we found the pigeon. I think in the the next book the dinos will eat Goldilocks.Īrianne: When I saw the pigeon, it was my favourite. My favourite part was when Goldilocks fell into the chocolate pudding. Kevin: I like when we found the pigeon eye in the cookie jar. And why did the dinos want to eat Goldilocks so badly? I liked that Goldilocks. Gracie: My favourite part was when she ate all of the bowls of chocolate pudding. “ I saw a little tear.” We also really liked the morals at the end of the story – one for Goldilocks (and the rest of us without predatory natures) and one for the dinosaurs. “ The little one was crying,” someone observed. Students were sympathetic to the dinosaurs’ failed plans. That’s why everything is big,” someone explained. She can practically take a swim in the chocolate pudding bowls! “ She’s tiny. We really get the sense of Goldilocks’ size relative to all of this extra large furniture and home accessories. We particularly liked the door mat that said, “Wipe your talons.” In the meantime she comes across some very tall and uninviting chairs (“ There’s feets on those chairs!” one of the children noticed) and a number of clues that this house she happened upon might not be the safest of places. And while on the one hand, she appears to have very little sense (just how much chocolate pudding should one girl eat?), eventually she does discover that she isn’t in the safest of places and that she had better escape and quick. This Goldilocks is a little bit more than presumptuous. In his version, it is three scheming dinosaurs who leave their home to go “someplace else.” (Note to readers – you might think you see dinosaurs hiding in the woods spying on Goldi but that would just be your imagination). Willems brings a new twist to an old tale putting his humorous and silly stamp on the Goldilocks story. The magic of Mo Willems descended (“ That’s a sneaky one,” muttered one little guy) and nobody dared look away for fear of missing a hidden pigeon on a subsequent page. When someone spotted a pigeon in the cookie jar in the second full page spread, well. In fact upon realizing that this book was a Willems book, a definite hush fell over the room. Well, to say that we are Mo Willems fans in our classroom is a bit of an understatement. Our latest BLG book brought in by Deborah was Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems. |
